Is my life more important than another?
One of Althea’s fairytales was about two sisters who were locked in a room without food and water by their stepmother. Anya was told by mysterious whispers that she could escape if she drew a door made of blood. She told her sister, Lisbet, about the voices and that only her blood could be used. After cutting her sister for her blood, Anya created a portal to another world. Lisbet died because she was cut too deep. This makes the reader question: What would I do in this situation? Would I sacrifice my own life for my sibling? Or would I immediately think to use their blood?

Ask for help when you need it.
Knowing when help is needed is difficult, especially for stubborn people who do not believe they need it. These too-independent people end up realizing that asking for help is a lot easier than it would be to live life by themselves. Alice despises asking for help since she and her mother move and ask for favors all the time. However, she has to ask for Finch’s help in order to pay for a car rental, gas, and a hotel room to find Ella.
